Remarks Overtakers – Girl You Ruff – Amalgamated

Even in 1968 they were still making and releasing ‘Rock Steady' in Jamaica – nothing ever really goes away in Jamaica – it might dim a little – it might even change a little – but the real thing is still around. Like most of the Rock Steady groups The Overtakers never released an album. Between 67 and 68 they bounced backwards and forwards between producers Joe Gibbs and Lloyd Daley. They never released a lot of tunes, but what they did release was quality. With so many great vocal groups around at that time, it was always going to be hard for them – but they made some tunes.

Keith Blake – Woo Oh – Amalgamated

More Rock Steady this time from the man Keith Blake – aka Ras Allah. Roy Shirley really started something with his ‘Get In The Groove’ ideas – everyone wanted to get in the Groove. And this tune is a bounce off of that. It’s also got some great horns. Putting horns on tunes cost decent money then and now – so old Gibbo was not holding back on this production. And he build a great rhythm for Keith to sing on in fine style. Which is the only way this man can sing!!
