Remarks	On 9th March 1969, the Maytals, comprising Frederick 'Toots' Hibbert, Raleigh Gordon and Jerry 'Mathias' McCarthy, attended a recording session at leading Kingston studio, Dynamic Sounds at which they cut a number of original compositions for Leslie Kong, the producer that had signed them to his Beverley?s label a year or before. The day's work produced a number of fine early Reggae sides from which two in particular stood out: 'Monkey Man' and ?She's My Scorcher'. Upon the release of the selected versions of the songs, both swiftly became key numbers in the group's repertoire, with the former breaching the UK charts before being covered by the likes of the Specials and Amy Winehouse. Now, as part of an ongoing archiving project, the original master tape for the March '69 session has finally been found, leading to the discovery of previously unissued alternate versions to these two celebrated classics. And it is with the greatest pleasure that we can now share these long forgotten variant cuts with Reggae fans the world over, with the tracks comprising the latest release in island?s recently-launched limited edition 7" range.
